Docs warn concussions can be deadly
(posted 5 Jan 2011)
The new U.S. study that shows concussions for children and teens have increased dramatically over the past decade has those on the front lines of sports and medicine in Ottawa taking note.
Dr. Martin Osmond, pediatric emergency physician at CHEO, said he’s seeing more kids than ever coming to the emergency room with concussions.
“I think there’s a higher recognition of the importance of concussions,” he said. “It used to be that we were just concerned when a child lost consciousness, or was vomiting, or other big symptoms like that, but now we’re paying a lot more attention to smaller symptoms like headaches, feeling fatigued and changes in their emotional status. All these things are signs of concussions.” More Details

Every post-season, 16 teams and over 400 players put down their Gillette shavers and refuse to shave again until their team is either eliminated from the playoffs or wins the Stanley Cup. Throughout the long course of the playoffs, beards can take on many different shapes and sizes, and often times the results can be hairy.
